AT&T/Walmart

If you want an iPhone that works well but don't need the pricey bells and whistles of the latest models, consider this deal: You can get the iPhone 13 for just $99 at Walmart when you activate in-store and sign up for select prepaid plans. This is an excellent option for those who don't want the latest iPhone features, for children and teens, or for seniors.

Walmart is an official retail partner with AT&T, and the two have teamed up to offer more affordable mobile plans and devices. At participating stores, you can sign up for either the Unlimited Enhanced Plus or Unlimited Ultra plans, which start at $45 per month. Both offer unlimited talk and text, unlimited 5G data, up to 30GB of hotspot data, international calling, and the AT&T Level Up program.

With AT&T Level Up, customers who make six consecutive on-time payments on their prepaid plan are eligible to switch to a monthly plan and get a new smartphone with zero down and no credit checks. This makes it a great way for teens and adults to save money and stay in touch with family and friends.

The iPhone 13 is several generations behind at this point, but it still offers plenty of reasons to pick one up. With 128GB of internal storage, a 19-hour battery life, and the A15 Bionic chip, the iPhone 13 is a solid smartphone with decent performance for everything from calls and texts to streaming and mobile gaming.

If you prefer online shopping, or if no physical Walmart stores near you offer in-store phone activation, you can still save a bit of money online with a $50 discount on the iPhone 13, bringing the price to $200. Prefer Android? Walmart is also offering the option to choose either a Motorola Moto G or Samsung Galaxy A16 for free in stores or for just $50 online.

How I rated this deal

Getting a decent, new-in-box smartphone for less than $100 feels almost criminal. But Walmart's steep discount and affordable pay-as-you-go AT&T phone plans are temptation enough to throw caution to the wind. The iPhone 13 may be on the older side, but it still offers excellent battery life and functionality, making it capable of keeping up with the latest Apple devices. Walmart is also offering discounts on the Samsung Galaxy A16 and Motorola Moto G smartphones for Android users. That's why I gave this deal a 4/5 Editor's rating.
